OUR STORY
My name is Luis Tirado, owner of The People’s Choice Meat Market & Grill. I was born in San German Puerto Rico on January 1970. I was raised in The Bronx and lived in Clay Avenue on 167th Street throughout my childhood. In 1989, I moved back with my family to Puerto Rico where I finished my last year of High School in San German, Puerto Rico. In 1990, at the age of 20 years old, I moved back to New York with my family. A close friend of mine told me about a job opening in a meat market located on 149th Street in the Bronx right on the corner of Bergen Avenue. It was my first employment since I came back from Puerto Rico, I had no experience with meat products, but I was willing to learn. While working at the meat market in 1993, I decided to attend Community College for a year to study Business Administration. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the support system I needed from my family to be able to complete my degree, so I decided to work full-time and quit college. I worked as a counterman in The 149 th Street Meat Market which was the name of the store back when it was first established in 1984. I managed to learn everything that was needed to know about meat products and sales. My previous bosses name was Mike, and he taught me so many things that I was lacking from a father figure. He taught me everything that I needed to know about the meat business. In 2003, I had the opportunity to buy the business from my previous employer Mike. I continued to do business with the same store name until 2004. In that same year, I changed the store name to The Butcher’s Choice II Meat Market. I continued to serve the community under the same name until 2021. The Meat Market has been serving the community for decades with Affordable Family meat plans and low prices on fresh meats. I had the pleasure of meeting a generation of customers who continue to come to my store to buy our fresh meat plans. We maintained open throughout the 2019 Pandemic to serve our community. We made sure our customers and staff were safe and comfortable. During the pandemic, I decided to work on one of my goals to create a Grill kitchen inside the meat market to be able to grill all the types of meat I sell in my store. So, I could continue to serve my community with fresh meats and cooked foods.
We are a family-oriented business. We treat our customers with respect and Love.
